Hedge Hailer Game Calls LLC

Our Story

My name is Shane Allen, and I’m the call maker behind Hedge Hailer Game Calls LLC. This isn’t a big company or a factory operation. It’s a small, part-time family business. We believe in building calls with integrity, treating customers like family, and honoring the traditions that bring us together in the blind. As it says in Proverbs 3:5:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

That verse addresses the original problem from the beginning of time and how critical it is to have faith and trust our Savior. That verse guides how we run this business, how we treat others, and how we approach the craft of call making. When you carry a Hedge Hailer, you’re not just carrying another call on your lanyard. You’re carrying a piece of honest craftsmanship, built with purpose, faith, and a passion for chasing ducks. Love God, Love People, Hunt Ducks.

My full-time job is as a wildlife biologist, where I manage a large public land wetland complex in Missouri. Working in wetlands every day and watching how ducks respond to pressure, weather, and calling styles has shaped how I design and tune every call. These calls are custom built by someone who lives in duck habitat and hunts the same kinds of places you do.

Rooted in Hedge

Our "Classic" calls are made from genuine Osage orange—known as hedge—a legendary hardwood prized for its strength, density, and natural resonance. When I started the business I made a multitude of different hedge game calls but now only focus on achieving the best mallard hen call at a more affordable price. I cut all of my hedge wood with my chainsaw and make sure it is properly seasoned then turn each  barrel one at a time.

Made for Duck Killers

For our custom molded calls, we don’t outsource our inserts or barrels. Every polyurethane insert and barrel is molded, cast, and finished by hand in my own shop. I use high-strength polyurethane for its toughness, temperature stability, and consistent tone. This gives our calls the durability hunters expect, while still keeping the craftsmanship and attention to detail of a true custom call.

Each call is individually turned, cast, tuned, and tested to make sure it carries the raspy, ducky sounds a duck killer wants.
